My little sister Shea called me two days ago and asked if I wanted to cut her hair.
I love to cut hair, even though it scares me a little. It’s one of those things where you like to think you would be good at it but you’re probably not. One time in the seventh grade my best friend Jen let me cut her bangs. We were going for the Audrey Hepburn look. She ended up looking more like a retarded hillbilly from West Virginia. I’m sorry, Jen.
Shea has let me trim her hair many times through the years, because Shea doesn’t really give a shit about hairstyles. She doesn’t even own a hairdryer. Shea has always been the kind of girl who will whip out the clippers and shave her head if the urge overcomes her. And she looks SO DAMN GOOD with a shaved head. I’m serious.
In the past it has always just been basic trims I’ve attempted on Shea, and this time she said I could cut it short – a REAL HAIRCUT – and I got really excited and decided to do it right. I went to a specialty store and bought hair cutting shears as well as a pair of thinning shears. This morning I watched some people giving pixie cuts on YouTube and the thinning shears seemed to make the process WAY easier. And they did! They worked!
Here are her “before” pictures:
It took me almost two hours, but we both ended up pretty pleased. Here are the “after” pictures:
I think she looks darling. I bought her a tiny pot of hair product that she can rub around in it when it’s wet…and then hopefully it will air dry and maintain its shape. Please notice in all four pictures her hair is still wet. Remember – no hair dryer. 🙂
I think a hair dryer will be my gift to her next Christmas. And shampoo. And please shut up about how those things would really be a gift for me and not her.
I KNOW THAT.
