My Hood

The other night Beatty asked me if we could go on a date.  When he asked, it was about 8pm and I looked at him and said, “Oh, honey, I would love to…but it’s too late for a date tonight”.  So then he explained how he didn’t mean a date as in leaving the house, but a date in his room.  Just me and him.  With a movie.  Laying on the floor together in a bundle of pillows and blankets.

So of course I took him up on his invitation, and as he cuddled up beside me with his surprisingly strong 7-year old boy body, I was overcome with peace and happiness that my boy is healthy and safe and sensitive and that he loves me.  I also appreciated the warm cozy floor and even the old TV with the VCR and DVD combo.  The TV that we have to use a screwdriver to turn on and off.

I’m lucky and I know it.

I want to show you how beautiful it is where I live.  Between the chaos of life and the busy-ness we jump into with both feet, the mountain behind my home is steadfast.  It guides me back to where warm limbs want to wrap around mine.  And I love the solidness of that mountain, whether it is covered in snow or a blaze of orange.  It doesn’t leave me.

It leads me home.
